09:31 pm: For those of you who don't know Bail's story
It's been a long time since I've recanted Bailey's story about how she found me and how things ended up working out.

Bailey is 7 [turning 8 soon] born at Mountain Ridge Aviaries sometime in 2002 and then sold unweaned to a Pet Store. I brought her home October 2005 [gosh it seems like longer!].

I've known Bail's previous owner since middle school, she is the aunt of one of my best schooltime friends and I spent a lot of time over there growing up. My first real experience with parrots was their Quaker parrot whose name was AckAck. He was full of personality. He loved me and would share my breakfast and ride around on my shoulder. he was never caged and was always kind of 'in your face', which I liked, but now I know a little bit better. He was killed some years ago by being smashed in a door, a product of his being uncaged all the time. Shortly after I started High school, J brought home a blue and gold macaw baby, who she was handfeeding. J named her Blue and weaned her and babied her and spoiled her, but never thought to teach her baby macaw how to play or occupy her own time other than to spend time with people.

Her and Blue were very bonded, but J had three kids and soon having a large parrot and three kids under 10 became a huge drain on her. Blue was left to her own devices, and chewed kitchen cabinets, doorframes and even destroyed the door of a refrigerator. Blue was kept in a ferret cage, because after spending who knows how much buying her from a petstore, she didn't have the fund to buy her a proper cage. She was getting to be at her wit's end and the final straw was when Blue ingested bleach and became ill. She tried selling Blue several times as she recovered - the main person being her Manager at Wendy's for $2000.

At that time I had just found out from M about AckAck's passing and was crushed - he was a rad little dude who had first sparked my interest in parrots. M mentioned after she had given me to news that J was looking to rehome Blue and mentioned that she might give her to me. Well, I jumped right on that bandwagon and told M that I was very interested in adopting Blue.

After several months of deliberation and such, J was getting ready to move and finally Blue was mine. I brought her, her 'cage' and her playstand home at the beginning of October. I changed Blue's name to Bailey and began working with her. She was attention-starved and neglected. Her feathers were in terrible condition from her diet, her illness and her cage. I got her switched to pellets and fresh foods and started spending tons of time with her and she blossomed. She is all I could have ever asked for.

She battled a severe illness soon after I adopted her, which my vet said was probably from ingestion bleach months before - but after many rounds of antibiotics and round the clock care, she recovered and has been [basically] healthy ever since. While at the vets early on, my vet said she had a severely compromised immune system, both from malnutrition and the bleach and probably just inherited some of it as well. Bailey has since been cleared of any immune problems, though I continue to treat her with both ACV and Benebac. I think her diet and just her being HAPPY has a lot to do with her flourishing health.

And now, pictures!
